Firefighters Battle Huge Blaze at Holt Heath

A major fire continues to rage across Holt Heath after emergency services declared a major incident yesterday. Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has multiple crews on site, battling the flames and working hard to protect nearby homes. So far, around 69 hectares of precious heathland have been destroyed.

Newton Heath Fire Also Still Burning

Meanwhile, firefighters are also tackling a separate wildfire at Newton Heath near Swanage. This fire started last Sunday and has already scorched 21 hectares. Investigators suspect the Newton Heath blaze was deliberately started, but the cause of the Holt Heath fire is still unknown.

Wildfire Alert Sounds as Heatwave Fuels Danger

An amber wildfire warning is in effect as soaring temperatures and dry weather stir fears of more devastating blazes. Fire chiefs are urging the public to stay alert and take all precautions.

“We’re urging the public to be vigilant and take extra care. Please extinguish cigarettes properly, avoid using BBQs or open flames on heathland or in open spaces, and take all litter home with you.”

If you spot a fire, move to safety immediately, note its location, and call 999. Never attempt to tackle large fires yourself – leave it to the professionals.
