Ian Huntley is on the brink of death after medics pulled the plug on his life support. The notorious Soham killer, who murdered two young girls in 2002, was left fighting for life following a savage jail attack. Now sources confirm he has been taken off a ventilator and is just hours from death, with his mother by his side.
Life Support Cut After Brain Tests Confirm Vegetative State
The 46-year-old’s ventilator was switched off at lunchtime after medical tests showed he was in a vegetative state. His only visitor in hospital, 71-year-old mother Lynda Richards, stayed by his bedside as his life slipped away.
Huntley remains able to “shallow breathe” without life support but is not expected to survive past 24 hours.
Brutal Jail Beating Left Huntley Blind and Fighting for Life
Huntley was viciously attacked with a three-foot spiked metal pole in a prison workshop at HMP Frankland, County Durham. The attack took place just after 9am last Thursday, leaving him blinded and with catastrophic injuries.
An insider revealed, “He never really recovered from the beating. This is it, the end of Huntley. Even his mother accepts this is for the best.”
Reports confirm he has been in an induced coma since the assault, which was carried out by triple killer Anthony Russell, 43. The attacker reportedly bragged, “I’ve done it! I’ve done it! I’ve killed him, I’ve killed him.”
Soham Killer’s Dark Legacy Haunts Britain
Huntley’s demise comes almost 24 years after he murdered 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire. The brutal double killing shocked the nation and stained his name forever.
In December 2003, Huntley was sentenced to life with a minimum 40-year tariff at the Old Bailey.
His mother recently told friends Huntley was unrecognisable after the attack, acknowledging the inevitable reaction if he dies in custody due to his horrific crimes.
Final Hours for the Soham Monster
Despite years of attacks in prison, the brutal assault left Huntley with injuries too severe to survive.
As he lies dying, no tears are being shed by those who knew him.
“No one who has dealt with him is shedding a tear. The day he was killed was always likely to arrive,” a source confirmed.
