Body Found in Sandwich Waterway Sparks Police and Rescue Response

A body was discovered in the water at Rope Walk, Sandwich, prompting a swift emergency response on Tuesday morning.

Emergency Services Rush to the Scene

  • Kent Fire and Rescue dispatched one fire engine and an officer at 9:22am to assist Kent Police.
  • Coastguards in drysuits were seen searching the water shortly after 8:30am.
  • The area around Rope Walk was cordoned off by police officers.
  • Deal Coastguard Search and Rescue team also joined the operation.

Tragic Discovery Confirmed

A road sweeper had reported spotting a body earlier, triggering a welfare concern and the subsequent search.

Kent Police was called to Woodnesborough Road, Sandwich at 9am on Tuesday 29 November 2022 following concern for a man in the area,” a Kent Police spokesman said.

Officers, paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service, and Kent Fire and Rescue attended. A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway, No Suspicion of Foul Play

The death is not being treated as suspicious. Police will prepare a report for the coroner as inquiries continue.
