Wildfire Sparks Urgent Safety Warning in Leysdown-on-Sea

Residents near Shellness Road in Leysdown-on-Sea, Sheerness have been put on alert after a wildfire broke out in a nearby field. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) scrambled four fire engines to the scene at 7:36pm on Thursday, 29 May 2025.

The blaze, fueled by dry grassland, is still being battled by emergency crews working to bring flames under control and limit smoke in the area.

Residents Told: Keep Doors and Windows Shut

KFRS urges everyone nearby to take immediate precautions to stay safe:

  • Keep all windows and doors firmly closed to avoid smoke inhalation
  • Avoid the affected area if you can, to keep you and emergency vehicles safe
  • Alert neighbours who may not have access to online warnings

No Injuries, Cause of Fire Unknown

Thankfully, there are no reports of injuries or damage to buildings so far. The cause of the wildfire remains unclear.

“We are urging anyone living or working nearby to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution while crews deal with the smoke,” said a Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
