A lorry fire on the M25 near the Dartford Crossing caused significant traffic disruption this afternoon (August 30), leading to long delays for motorists in the area. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway of the A282, between Junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange and Junction 1B for the A296 Princes Road/Dartford.

Emergency services, including crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS), were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Two fire engines worked to bring the blaze under control. The fire resulted in the closure of two out of the four lanes on the northbound side, leading to heavy congestion and gridlock conditions, particularly on the M25 anticlockwise.

KFRS provided a full update on the situation, stating, “Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of a lorry fire between Junction 2 and 1B on the A282 northbound – near to the Dartford Crossing. Two fire engines are in attendance, and crews are working to extinguish the fire.”

As of the latest reports, traffic conditions were improving, with travel times reducing to around 15 to 20 minutes in the affected areas. However, the incident served as a reminder of the potential for sudden disruptions on major motorways like the M25, and drivers were thanked for their patience during the emergency response.
