A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a hit-and-run incident in Weymouth.

Dorset Police received a report at 8:26 PM on Tuesday, July 16, of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians on Abbotsbury Road, near the junction with Cromwell Road.

The incident involved a black Volkswagen Golf, which failed to stop at the scene. One of the pedestrians, a man in his 20s, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The second pedestrian, a man in his 30s, did not sustain any serious injuries.

Following initial inquiries, a 24-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to report a road accident. He appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 19, and is scheduled to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, August 22.

Further investigative work led to the arrest of a 59-year-old man from Weymouth on suspicion of attempted murder.

The police have urged anyone with information about the incident or who may have witnessed the hit-and-run to come forward.
