In a significant development for counter-terrorism efforts in the UK, Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) Vicki Evans of Cambridgeshire Constabulary has been appointed as the new Senior National Coordinator (SNC) for Counter Terrorism Policing.
ACC Evans assumes this critical role following the retirement of Met Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) Tim Jacques, who served the police force for 37 years, the last six of which were dedicated to counter-terrorism operations.
With over 20 years of policing experience, ACC Evans brings a wealth of expertise to her new position. Her career spans various roles including response policing, crime investigation, serious and organised crime, and covert policing. Prior to joining Cambridgeshire Constabulary in 2020, she served as the temporary ACC at Dyfed-Powys Police.
Notably, ACC Evans has played a pivotal role over the last 12 months as the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) lead on implementing the recommendations of the Manchester Arena Inquiry, particularly focusing on volume two recommendations.
The Commissioner of the Met Police, Sir Mark Rowley, expressed gratitude to DAC Jacques for his dedicated service, particularly in the realm of counter-terrorism. He extended best wishes for Jacques’ retirement and welcomed ACC Evans to the Metropolitan Police and Counter Terrorism Policing.
Matt Jukes, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing and Assistant Commissioner at the Met, lauded ACC Evans’ appointment, highlighting her extensive experience in senior investigative and operational roles. He emphasized her ability to collaborate effectively with government, agencies, and local policing, underscoring her suitability for the SNC role.
In response, ACC Vicki Evans expressed her honor and privilege in assuming the role of Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing. She commended the dedication and professionalism of officers, staff, and partners involved in counter-terrorism efforts and expressed her commitment to leveraging these relationships to address the terrorism threat faced by communities.
ACC Evans’ appointment marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the UK, as she steps into a pivotal leadership role within the counter-terrorism landscape.
