Police have launched a serious investigation in Reading this afternoon after an incident in a local park — believed to be a rape — prompted a heavy emergency services response and the presence of forensics.
A large police cordon has been established near the children’s play area at Beresford Road Park, adjacent to the Portman Road roundabout. Passers-by reported seeing multiple officers and forensics teams combing the scene, with a section of the park sealed off to the public.

While police have not officially confirmed the nature of the incident, local sources suggest the investigation relates to a serious sexual assault, and officers have been at the scene since earlier this afternoon.
