Police in Kidbrooke apprehended a suspected drug dealer after spotting an individual acting suspiciously near a school in Greenwich while riding a stolen moped.
On January 16, vigilant officers observed a man behaving suspiciously in the area. They attempted to stop a moped linked to the individual, but the rider reportedly refused to comply with their instructions.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the moped had been reported stolen.
Officers initiated a pursuit of the moped, first by car and then on foot, eventually leading to the apprehension of a man believed to be connected to the incident.
A subsequent search conducted by the authorities uncovered multiple bags of cannabis, wraps of cocaine, a sum of cash, and a mobile phone.
The individual was subsequently arrested on suspicion of various offenses, including drug-related charges, driving violations, theft, and money laundering.
Law enforcement officials have expressed their commitment to reuniting the stolen moped with its rightful owner. The arrested individual has been released on bail as the investigation continues as a top priority.
Remarkably, the arrest was made just two hours after the launch of a new Metropolitan Police team in southeast London, aimed at addressing local crime concerns and apprehending perpetrators.
The team was deployed to an area in Kidbrooke following reports of robberies, with a mission to disrupt criminal activities and bring offenders to justice.
Sergeant Wayne Robbens, who leads one of these newly formed teams, stated, “We listened to local people’s concerns and launched this team so we could tackle the issues they are worried about. We all want to make south-east London a safer place for our communities, and this is one of the steps we’re taking to make this happen.
Borough Commander Trevor Lawry, responsible for policing in Greenwich, emphasized the importance of swiftly addressing community concerns and enhancing service quality, stating, “We’re using all the intelligence and data we can to precisely locate where the issues are and quickly send officers to act. We’re here to serve the south-east, and I hope that more people can see we’re responding to what matters to them. We’re constantly working to improve our service.”
The newly formed south-east London Metropolitan Police teams are designed to conduct precision operations based on intelligence and data, with the aim of identifying and tackling issues within local communities.
