Tragic Death of Leah Senior in Wakefield Road Incident

The Wakefield community is now aware of the identity of the young woman who tragically lost her life in a harrowing road traffic incident on Wednesday evening (17 January). The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Leah Senior, a resident of Kirklees. Her untimely death has left the community in mourning and disbelief.

Leah Senior lost her life as a result of falling from a moving vehicle in the Denby Dale Road area near the junction of Hollin Lane. The incident took place between 8:20 pm and 8:40 pm, and despite the immediate response of emergency services providing medical assistance at the scene, she succumbed to her injuries. The news of her passing has devastated her family and friends, and the entire community is now grappling with this heartbreaking loss.

In connection with this tragic incident, a 25-year-old man from Kirklees has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving offences. He is currently in police custody as the investigation unfolds, deepening the gravity of this heartbreaking situation.

The Wakefield Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) is leading the investigation, and they are appealing to the public for any information that may shed light on the events leading to this tragedy. Road closures have been in place overnight at the scene to facilitate a thorough investigation, with authorities gathering evidence and witness statements.

Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes of HMET issued a heartfelt plea, stating, “We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries into this incident in which a woman has lost her life. A man remains in custody today after being arrested in relation to the incident, and I am appealing for witnesses and anyone with mobile phone or CCTV footage which captured what occurred to contact us.

Bowes further emphasized, “We would like to speak to anyone in the area of Denby Dale Road and Hollin Lane between 8.20 pm and 8.40 pm who saw or has footage of the incident or who saw the white Transit van just before the incident. Your information could be crucial in shedding light on this tragic event.”

The authorities have urged anyone with information related to this incident to contact HMET at 101, referencing police log 1604 of January 17. The community is now called upon to unite in support of the ongoing investigation and to provide solace to the grieving family of Leah Senior during this challenging time.
