Teen’s Life Cut Short in Tragic Street Brawl
In a heart-breaking blow to the Abbey Wood community, 16-year-old Kearne Solanke was fatally stabbed on November 26, 2022. What started as a violent clash turned deadly when Kearne was accidentally killed by one of his own friends during the chaotic fight on Sewell Road. The same savage incident also claimed the life of fellow teenager Charlie Bartolo.
Fatal Mistake in Violent Brawl
Court heard chilling details as prosecutors revealed Kearne was part of a group that attacked 16-year-old Charlie Bartolo. Described by Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones QC as a “moment of murderous stupidity,” the fatal stabbing happened amidst the confusion when Kearne was mistakenly knifed by a companion.
Following the attack, Kearne was left collapsed on the pavement of Titmuss Avenue in Thamesmead. Emergency crews battled to save him, but he sadly died from his injuries.
Family Grieves Unbearable Loss
The heartbreak for Kearne’s family, especially his mother, was painfully raw. She recounted the agonising hours spent by his side as medics fought to keep him alive. During the sentencing of Hussain Bah and Alagie Jobe, 19, along with two other teens linked to the murders of Kearne and Charlie, victim impact statements laid bare the depth of grief.
“I don’t think I can ever truly accept that Kearne is gone,” his mother said, pouring out her sorrow.
“You were the only person I knew who truly loved life and lived life to the fullest.”
Community Shocked by Senseless Violence
The brutal loss of Kearne Solanke has devastated his family and robbed the community of a bright young life. This grim tragedy highlights the brutal consequences of gang violence and the terrible price paid by innocent youngsters caught in its grip.
As the community mourns, Kearne’s story stands as a stark reminder of how quickly life can be stolen—and the urgent need to tackle youth violence head-on.
