In a heartbreaking incident, 11-year-old Clodagh Phelan from County Wicklow, Ireland, tragically lost her life after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel balcony in Majorca. The accident occurred early Monday morning at the Club Mac Hotel in Puerto de Alcudia, where Clodagh was holidaying with her family.
Tributes have been pouring in for the young student, who was set to enter 6th class this September. Antoinette Doyle, Principal at St Saviour’s National School in Rathdrum, spoke highly of Clodagh, describing her as a “wonderful, happy student” known for her bright smile and love for sports and music. “Clodagh was always smiling and was loved by all throughout the school,” Doyle said. She excelled in a variety of sports including camogie, football, athletics, rugby, and hockey. Clodagh also had a passion for singing, having taken a leading part in the school’s Christmas play.
Her hockey club also expressed deep sorrow, noting her significant contribution to the team and her uplifting spirit that will be greatly missed. Her energy radiated throughout, always wanting to help others,” the club’s statement read.
Clodagh’s family, friends, and community are left in mourning as they navigate this immense loss. The details of funeral arrangements will follow, as her loved ones prepare to say their final goodbyes to a girl described by all who knew her as a “little angel.”
