War Medals and Priceless Jewellery Stolen in Basingstoke Burglary
Police are hunting thieves who smashed their way into a home near Basingstoke and made off with war medals and a haul of precious jewellery. The raid took place on Northfield Road, Sherfield-on-Loddon, between 12.45pm and 7.40pm on December 19.
Smash-and-Grab Targets Sentimental Treasures
The burglars forced entry by smashing a window. Once inside, they stole a large quantity of valuables, including:
- A gold wedding band
- A diamond and sapphire gold ring
- Several pairs of silver earrings
- Silver and gold cufflinks
- Five Second World War campaign medals
PC Gary Baldwin said: “While the exact value of the stolen items is unclear, their sentimental worth is immense. This theft has been very upsetting for the victims.”
Police Follow Clues to Nearby Allotment
Empty jewellery boxes were discovered the following day in an allotment at Bow Gardens, prompting police to ask the public to be vigilant.
“We want to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area, especially around Northfield Road and Bow Gardens on December 19,” said PC Baldwin. “If you have information, you could help us return these treasured items to their rightful owners.”
