Night Out Horror: Woman Stabbed in the Eye After Offering Help

Shocking Attack in St Mary’s Car Park

In the early hours of Saturday 18 December 2021, Kai Ridgewell went on a terrifying rampage. Around 3.15am, he was spotted acting strangely in St Mary’s car park. A 21-year-old woman, making her way home after a night out with friends, approached him to check if he needed help. Instead of gratitude, Ridgewell stabbed her in the eye.

Brutal Stabbing Leaves Victim Sightless

Ridgewell was immediately arrested at the scene. The victim, a stranger to him, was rushed to hospital. Despite several surgeries, doctors broke the heart-wrenching news: she would never see out of that eye again.

Kai Ridgewell Faces Justice

Ridgewell pleaded guilty at St Albans Crown Court on 14 February. On 25 March, Huntingdon Crown Court sentenced him to 11 years in prison. He faced charges of Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective’s Statement: Zero Tolerance for Violence

“This was an entirely unprovoked and horrific attack,” said Detective Constable Nathalia Smith, who led the probe. “The victim showed immense bravery. No sentence can undo her suffering, but this lengthy jail term offers some justice and closure.”

“Everyone deserves to enjoy a night out and get home safely. Ridgewell’s vile actions will not be tolerated in Hertfordshire. We have a zero-tolerance policy for weapon-carrying offenders.”

“The investigation involved painstaking CCTV analysis and witness searches. This is a warning: if you threaten our communities, we will find you and bring you to justice.”
