A 93-year-old former fighter pilot has died following a serious three-vehicle collision on Hayling Island which left four people badly injured.

Clive Nigel Fitz, from Hayling Island, was driving a silver Ford Focus when it was involved in a collision with a black Kia Sportage and a white Tesla Model Y on the A3023 Havant Road at around 3pm on Sunday, July 26.

Police said the Ford Focus and Kia were travelling south towards Hayling Island, while the Tesla was travelling north away from the island.

The driver of the Kia and three occupants of the Ford suffered serious injuries. Mr Fitz later died.

His family have paid tribute to him as a former fighter pilot and schoolmaster who had been married for more than 50 years and was a father of four.

They described him as a sports enthusiast and a “kind soul” who was loved by many and would be deeply missed.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is continuing to investigate the collision and wants to hear from witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam footage showing any of the vehicles before the crash or the collision itself.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting reference 44260359349.
