Life sentence for Leigh attacker
Paul Brierley, from Hendon Street, Leigh, has been locked up for life for the manslaughter of 57-year-old Paul Ologbose. The shocking incident happened just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022, outside Higher Fold Sports and Social Club on Kensington Drive.
Deadly punch leaves victim fatally injured
Brierley delivered an unprovoked blow to Paul Ologbose, causing a serious head injury. Paul was rushed to hospital but tragically died that same day. At Manchester Crown Court on 13 July 2022, Brierley pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years and eight months on top of his life term.
Family and police speak out
“Our condolences go first and foremost to the family and friends of Paul, who is sadly no longer with us,” said Senior Investigating Officer Phil Reade. “This sentence hopefully brings some solace to Paul’s family. This mindless violence has tragic consequences.”
Paul’s family said: “No sentence can replace what we’ve lost. We just wanted justice for our dad, taken far too soon. This tragedy shattered us, and a big part of our family will always be missing. Always loved and always missed.”
They also thanked those who supported them through this devastating time.
