Manhunt Ends as Stabber Nabbed After Killing on Arden Road
Fatal Stabbing Sparks Manhunt
Maiel Abdulbaki plunged a knife into Minh Thuc Tran’s back at an Arden Road address on 15 January, then vanished. Residents rushed to help the 43-year-old, but despite their efforts, Minh died at the scene.
Suspect Turns Himself In, Caught Red-Handed
The day after the stabbing, Abdulbaki showed up to cops on New Street, Birmingham, claiming he’d been stabbed himself. Officers instantly recognised him and arrested him. He was still wearing the clothes from the night of the attack — which were smeared with Minh’s blood.
Claims of Self-Defence Fall Short in Court
During interviews, Abdulbaki insisted he acted in self-defence, pointing to a series of build-ups before the stabbing. But at Birmingham Crown Court on 24 July, the 44-year-old was cleared of murder and convicted of manslaughter.
Sentencing Looms Next Month
Abdulbaki will be sentenced next month, as the city awaits justice for Minh’s tragic death.
