Jealous Rage Leads to Horrific Stabbing Attack – Man Jailed for 18 Years
Attack Sparks After Divorce Fallout
A man has been locked up for 18 years after launching a brutal stabbing attack on his ex-partner and her new male friend in a jealous rage. Umit Hayta, 39, from Dagenham, went berserk after his wife filed for divorce following 15 years together.
On 21 February, Hayta’s ex-partner invited a man she’d known two months to her home in Homerton. Barely 15 minutes later, Hayta kicked down the door and launched a savage assault on the 24-year-old, stabbing him 18 times. The male victim needed urgent brain surgery and faced life-threatening injuries.
Children Flee As Violence Erupts
Hayta’s ex-partner tried desperately to hold the door shut and shouted at her two young children to escape. They fled to a neighbour’s house while she dodged further attack. The victim ran to a nearby shop, warning for help: “Shut the door, he’s going to kill me.”
Police later found Hayta at his home in blood-stained clothes. He admitted his crime to officers, saying: “I find her with some man.” He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.
Life-Changing Injuries and Lasting Trauma
The victim’s cousin described him as a kind, popular community member whose life was shattered. “He was stabbed 18 times in an unprovoked attack. He survived but faces severe cognitive and behavioural difficulties. His life and hopes are gone forever.”
The ex-partner also suffered serious injuries. She said: “I never thought Umit would hurt me. This will stay with me forever. He’s ruined our lives and the children’s.”
Police Send a Warning
Detective Constable Rajkumar Anton Arulnayagam said: “Hayta’s brutal and sustained attack could have ended in death. The evidence forced a guilty plea, sparing the victims the trauma of trial. This sentencing sends a clear message – violence will not be tolerated.”
