Massive Cannabis Haul from LA Seized in Nottingham Sting

Top-Quality Dry Cleaning? Think Again

What was shipped from Los Angeles, California, claiming to be ‘machinery for dry cleaning’ turned out to be 260 bags of cannabis. The total stash weighed a staggering 153 kilograms. The parcel was headed to an address on Hucknall Road, Sherwood.

Police Crack Down on Curtis Campbell

Nottinghamshire Police swooped four days later, on 16 November 2022, executing a warrant at the Sherwood address. Thirty-one-year-old Curtis Campbell, from Oulton Lodge, Top Valley, Nottingham, was arrested on the spot.

Officers found clear evidence of drug importation and supply on Campbell’s phones. He was charged with involvement in the fraudulent importation of a Class B drug, in addition to supplying and producing cannabis.

Campbell admitted guilt and was locked up for four years and eight months at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, 21 February 2023.

Another Parcel Snagged in Earlier Bust

The court heard Campbell was also caught out when another package from the US was intercepted by Border Force on 2 May 2022 at the Coventry International Hub. This parcel contained 530g of cannabis, worth up to £4,500 on the streets.

Campbell was arrested over this shipment on 11 August 2022.

Police Credit Teamwork in Takedown

Detective Constable Ben Grayson said: “These detailed investigations show how Nottinghamshire Police and its partners work tirelessly to prevent and combat this level of organised crime.”

“I’m delighted our operations have resulted in a drug dealer being stopped in his tracks and brought to justice, as well as an extremely large quantity of drugs he intended for onward supply being taken off the streets, reducing harm caused to others and stopping the funding of organised crime.”

“We will continue to work to disrupt criminals who prey on the vulnerable and seek to profit from other people’s misery by selling illegal drugs which we know has a hugely detrimental impact on our communities.”
