Yeovil Man Jailed for Horrific Crash That Killed Mother and Injured Two
Shane Bovey, 41, from Yeovil, was slammed with a 14-year prison sentence at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday, 2 May 2023. He admitted causing death by dangerous driving, plus two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and aggravated vehicle theft.
Deadly Crash on Mosterton’s B3066
The tragic drama unfolded just before 8.15pm on the B3066 Main Road in Mosterton, a 30mph zone with no pavements. Victims Nicole Bowden, 48, her daughter Emily Fox-Williams, 24, and an 11-month-old baby in a pushchair were walking along the road when Bovey lost control as he rounded a left-hand bend and crashed into them.
Airlifted Victims and a Fatality
All three victims were airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Sadly, Nicole Bowden died on the afternoon of Thursday, 9 May, despite medical efforts. Emily and the baby sustained serious injuries but survived.
Warning to Drivers: Don’t Drink or Drug Drive
“I hope this tragic incident can send a clear message to anyone thinking of getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drink and drugs of the truly awful consequences that can occur,” a spokesperson said.
“We will continue to do all we can to catch anyone who poses a risk to themselves and other road users by driving while under the influence. We will ensure those who do break the law are investigated robustly and evidence is brought before the court to ensure they are held to account for their offending.”
