Kent Police has been investigating a series of thefts in the town centre which are alleged to have taken place over the past month.

On 7 October 2023, multiple items of perfume were reported stolen from Fenwick in the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre. It is alleged the department store was targeted again on 31 October, when more perfume was stolen, and that on the same day a further attempt was made to steal from The Perfume Store.
