A man has admitted causing the deaths of a mother and daughter in a devastating crash on Boxing Day 2023 after driving at nearly three times the speed limit in a residential area of Shard End, Birmingham.
Mohammed Ibrahim, 25, was behind the wheel of a vehicle travelling at 84mph in a 30mph zone on Meadway, at the junction with Kitt’s Green Road, when he lost control and crashed.
The impact claimed the lives of Amanda Riley, 49, and her mother, Linda Philips, 72, and left three others seriously injured.
West Midlands Police confirmed Ibrahim fled the scene without offering help to the injured victims. He was later identified and arrested by police.
‘Selfish and Dangerous Driving’
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“Amanda and Linda tragically lost their lives, and others were injured due to the selfishness and dangerous driving of Ibrahim.
He made no attempt to help anyone and ran off, rather than face up to what he’d done, but we managed to quickly identify and arrest him.”
He added:
“This incident has devastated a family who we have continued to support during these tragic times. Nothing will ever bring Amanda or Linda back, but we hope that this plea will provide the family with a sense of justice.”
Sentencing to Follow
Ibrahim has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and will be sentenced on 16 July. The West Midlands Police continue to support the grieving family.
