Man Speeds at 84mph in 30mph Zone, Kills Mother and Daughter on Boxing Day
A reckless driver has admitted to causing the deaths of a mother and daughter after smashing through a residential street at nearly three times the speed limit. The horror crash happened on Boxing Day 2023 in Shard End, Birmingham.
Deadly Crash on Meadway
Mohammed Ibrahim, 25, was caught speeding at 84mph in a 30mph zone on Meadway near Kitt’s Green Road. He lost control of his vehicle, crashing violently. The impact killed 49-year-old Amanda Riley and her 72-year-old mother, Linda Philips.
Three other people were seriously injured in the smash.
Driver Flees Scene, Arrest Follows
West Midlands Police revealed Ibrahim fled immediately, leaving the victims without help. Officers quickly identified and arrested him.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: “Amanda and Linda tragically lost their lives, and others were injured because of Ibrahim’s selfish and dangerous driving. He made no attempt to help and ran off instead of facing up to what he’d done. We managed to identify and arrest him swiftly.”
“This tragedy has devastated a family we continue to support. Nothing will bring Amanda or Linda back, but we hope this plea brings their family some justice.”
Guilty Plea and Upcoming Sentence
Ibrahim has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He is due to be sentenced on 16 July.
West Midlands Police remain committed to supporting the grieving family as they seek justice.
