A murder investigation launched by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command led to the defendant’s arrest on August 10, 2022. Analysis of a mobile phone recovered during the investigation uncovered a chat from August 8, in which the boy boasted about stabbing “Huntz” — Deshaun’s nickname.
Police and Family Statements
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who led the investigation, said:
“The boy denied stabbing Deshaun, but it was clear he travelled to Highbury Fields that night, armed and looking for trouble. Identifying him was a long and complex task, but we were determined to get justice.”

Deshaun’s family issued a heartfelt statement:
“He was my firstborn and would have turned 18 this year. His death has left a void that can never be filled. He was a son, a brother, a grandson, a great-grandson, a nephew, and a cousin to many.
We will never forgive or forget. Deshaun, you can now rest in peace. Hopefully, justice will be served — not only has Deshaun’s life been lost, but the person responsible will now serve the time.”

“There is no verdict that can bring Deshaun back to his family. I sincerely hope they find some comfort in today’s outcome. Our thoughts remain with them.”
