A vicious, unprovoked knife assault in Manchester has landed thug Blane Latouche behind bars. The 30-year-old, with no fixed address, savagely attacked his friend Charles O’Connor, 27, leaving him fighting for life and ultimately costing him his right arm.
Attack in Manchester Car Park: Friend Stabbed 11 Times
The horror unfolded in the early hours of July 2, 2024, at a car park on Ainsbrook Avenue, Blackley. The two had been driving around, inhaling nitrous oxide balloons with Charles’s girlfriend. Suddenly, Latouche pulled a knife from who-knows-where, forced Charles into the front seat, and plunged the blade deep—11 times.
- 5 stabs to the upper right arm
- 2 stabs to the right thigh
- 2 stabs under the armpit
- 1 stab to the left hand
Despite desperate pleas, Latouche showed no mercy. Charles collapsed, bleeding, and Latouche ran off. Charles underwent emergency surgery, resulting in the amputation of his right arm after a 13-month hospital stay. Now living with carers, Charles says he still doesn’t understand why his friend turned on him.
“I thought I was going to die. Knowing it was someone I trusted made it worse.” – Charles O’Connor
Judge Calls Attack “Senseless” and Labels Attacker Dangerous
Latouche tried to erase evidence by dumping the knife, Charles’s phone, and bloodied clothes. Police found blood on Latouche’s clothing and discovered two weapons at his home, including a machete stashed in his bed.
At Manchester Crown Court on March 19, 2025, Judge Hilary Manley slammed the attack as “completely senseless and unprovoked” on a “defenceless person” packed into a confined space. Latouche was branded a “dangerous” offender. He was cleared of attempted murder but pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article.
From Trauma to Jail: Latouche’s Dark Past Revealed
Despite coming from a respectable family, Latouche’s troubled past emerged: childhood trauma, a spiralling mental health decline with hallucinations from 18, and paranoia worsened by drugs. In a remorseful letter, he admitted:
“I cannot fully express how devastated I feel for what I have done.”
He was sentenced to eight years in prison, followed by two years on extended licence. Charles’s life will never be the same, but Latouche will pay for his brutal betrayal behind bars.
