Sex Offender Jailed for Four Years After Newry Court Conviction
Harsh Sentence for Denvior Larkin
Denvior Larkin, 33, from Newry, has been sentenced to four years following a grim conviction for attempted rape and serious Class A drug offences. The Newry Crown Court ordered two years behind bars and two years on licence.
Larkin will stay on the sex offenders’ register for life and is slapped with a five-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).
PSNI Cracks Down on Sexual Violence
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) launched a tough investigation after the victim bravely came forward. Detective Inspector Moffett made it clear:
“If someone is heavily intoxicated or asleep, they cannot consent to sexual activity. This is rape.”
The PSNI’s 2024-2025 Policing Plan prioritises tackling serious sexual offences, urging victims to report abuse. Campaigns like No Excuse for Abuse back survivors every step of the way.
Victim’s Powerful Message After Two-Year Battle
The victim, who remains unnamed, spoke out following the sentence:
“I am proud of myself for fighting for over two years. It is not our shame to carry.”
This stance resonates with the work of Nexus NI and Victim Support NI, both offering vital therapy and advocacy for sexual violence survivors.
Drug Offences Add to Conviction
Alongside the sexual offence, Larkin pleaded guilty to possession and supply of Class A drugs. PSNI data reveals drug offences jumped 7% from 2023 to 2024. This conviction supports the UK Government’s Drug Strategy aimed at smashing drug supply chains across Northern Ireland.
Public Cheers Justice Served
Social media users rallied behind the victim and police on X (formerly Twitter). One commenter said:
“The victim’s courage is inspiring. Justice served.”
Legal experts underline the Sexual Offences (Northern Ireland) Order 2008, which clearly sets penalties for non-consensual acts.
