Disgraced former glam rock star Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been ordered by the High Court to pay £508,800 in compensation to one of the women he abused. The victim, who suffered sexual assault and rape, brought a High Court claim for damages, citing severe and prolonged psychiatric injury resulting from Gadd’s abuse.

Background
Gary Glitter, known for hits like “Rock and Roll (Part 2)” and “I’m the Leader of the Gang (I Am),” was convicted in 2015 for abusing a woman and two other young people between 1975 and 1980. His actions had a devastating impact on the victim’s education, work, and personal relationships.
Court Ruling
Mrs Justice Tipples ruled that the claimant is entitled to £508,800 in damages. The judge emphasised the seriousness of the abuse, stating, “There is no doubt that the claimant suffered serious abuse.” Gadd, however, shunned the High Court hearing and was absent during the ruling.
Reincarceration
Despite being automatically released from HMP The Verne, a low-security prison in Portland, Dorset, in February last year after serving half of his fixed-term determinate sentence, Glitter found himself back behind bars. Police monitoring revealed that he had breached his licence conditions by attempting to access the dark web. He is now back at HMP The Verne after a recent failed parole bid at HMP Risley.
The parole panel concluded that it would not be safe for the public to release him. Glitter’s actions continue to have far-reaching consequences, leaving his victim scarred and seeking justice
