Police are conducting an ongoing investigation following the tragic murder of a young man in Hailsham town centre on Thursday, 29 August.

Emergency services were called to Vicarage Field at approximately 6.20 pm, where they discovered 20-year-old Billy Ripley suffering from a severe chest injury, believed to be a stab wound. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Billy, a local resident, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time.

He added, “Our enquiries are ongoing, but we can confirm the individuals involved were known to each other. Additional officers have been out in the community to offer reassurance and that engagement will continue, with partner agencies, over the weekend.”

The police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or individuals with relevant video footage to come forward. DCI Campbell urged, “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses, or anyone who may have relevant video footage, to contact us.
