Tragedy in Hailsham: Young Man Fatally Stabbed in Town Centre
Police are hunting for answers after 20-year-old Billy Ripley was found stabbed to death in Hailsham town centre on Thursday evening.

Emergency crews raced to Vicarage Field at around 6.20pm to find Billy with a serious chest wound. Despite frantic efforts, paramedics declared him dead at the scene. The local lad’s grieving family have been informed and are receiving specialist support.
Two Arrested as Investigation Deepens
- A 17-year-old boy from nearby Hellingly was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
- A 21-year-old woman from Hailsham was also arrested, suspected of assisting an offender.
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell conveyed heartfelt condolences to Billy’s family. “Our sincere sympathies go out to the family of this young man,” he said. “They will continue to receive full support from us while we work to find answers.”
Known to One Another, Police Seek Witnesses
DCI Campbell confirmed the victim and suspects knew each other and pledged ongoing community reassurance efforts throughout the weekend with partner agencies.
The police are urgently appealing for any witnesses or anyone with video footage to come forward. “Please contact us or upload any information via our Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP),” Campbell urged.
