Between Saturday 30 March and Sunday 30 June 2024, several bulk thefts were reported at shops in Gillingham, Rainham and Rochester.
Quantities of meat, health supplements, clothing, cleaning products and confectionary were allegedly uk/news/uk/stolen/" title="stolen" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-wpil-monitor-id="32716">stolen from Tesco, Holland and Barrett, the Co-op and Poundland. Officers from the Medway Victim Based Crime Team completed enquiries into the incidents including the examination of CCTV footage.
On Friday 5 July, a man was arrested and taken into custody. Matthew Albert, of Cherry Orchard Drive, Gillingham, was later charged with five counts of theft. The items stolen were valued at more than £650. The 32-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 6 July.
