Jack Mitchell died in 2016, aged just 15. A post-mortem revealed he suffered a fatal pulmonary infection and pneumonia caused by injuries he sustained as a baby in Laindon.

Biological dad John Doak faces justice

John Doak, 37, from Delgate Avenue, later faced murder charges. But at Chelmsford Crown Court today (Friday 6 November), he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Sentencing set for Monday

Doak will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday 9 November.

Police pay tribute to Jack and his adoptive parents

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss said, “This is a truly tragic case of a young man whose future was taken away from him by the injuries sustained at the hands of his father.”

He added, “My thoughts also go out to Jack’s adoptive parents who had given him many wonderful years before his death. They continue to cope with the sad loss of Jack.”
