A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed from the force following a misconduct hearing, where it was revealed that he had sent a colleague an unsolicited picture of a penis.
PC Rafiqur Rahman faced a misconduct hearing where it was disclosed that he not only sent the inappropriate photo but also repeatedly touched his colleague’s hair without consent.
The hearing was told that PC Rahman, while sitting in a police car with his female colleague, repeatedly touched her hair by twisting it around his fingers. The female officer reported feeling uncomfortable with this behavior, considering it an unwelcome invasion of her personal space.
According to the female officer, this touching occurred approximately 10 times during their shift in February 2021. Later, PC Rahman sent her a photo of a penis and followed up with a question regarding its size, both of which were denied by PC Rahman during the hearing.
During the investigation, PC Rahman was placed on restricted duties, but on Monday, February 12, 2024, a misconduct hearing panel concluded that both allegations against him were proven. Consequently, he was dismissed from the police force.
Ch Supt Simon Crick, overseeing policing in Newham and Waltham Forest, expressed his dismay at the incident, emphasizing the expectation for officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and respect towards both the public and their colleagues.
He stated, “I’m sickened that my officer was assaulted in this way, and we are taking steps to ensure her continued welfare.” He added, “Rahman has no place in the Met or policing and has now been rightly dismissed.
PC Rahman will also be added to the Barred List maintained by the College of Policing, effectively prohibiting his employment in any police force in the future.
