Mother Jailed for Attempting to Cover Up XL Bully Attack on Daughter’s Friend – UKNIP

In a harrowing case that shocked the community of Erith, a mother has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for attempting to conceal a devastating XL Bully attack on her daughter’s 10-year-old friend. Danielle Roberts, 42, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice and being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused injury.

The distressing incident unfolded on April 1 last year when the victim went to Roberts’ residence on Byron Drive, Erith, for a playdate. Tragically, the afternoon turned into a nightmare when Roberts’ boyfriend’s XL Bully, named Charlie, launched a ferocious attack on the young girl, inflicting severe injuries.

During the attack, which lasted for an extended period, the victim sustained puncture wounds across her body, leaving her covered in blood and in urgent need of medical attention. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Roberts failed to take immediate action, instead instructing her daughter to handle the situation and avoid involving emergency services.

As the victim lay injured and in desperate need of help, Roberts arrived home and attempted to shield the incident from law enforcement. She instructed the wounded girl to hide in the bathroom and initially refused to cooperate with police officers, denying them access to the house.

However, the gravity of the situation became apparent when the injured girl called out for help, prompting Roberts to relent and allow officers inside. The victim, visibly distressed and covered in blood, was discovered by police, underscoring the severity of her injuries and the urgency of the situation.

In sentencing, Judge Philip Shorrock condemned Roberts’ actions, emphasizing her failure to prioritize the victim’s welfare and the seriousness of the offense. He noted the inherent risks associated with owning a dog like Charlie and emphasized the need for vigilance and responsible ownership.

Roberts, who expressed remorse for her actions and claimed to have panicked in the aftermath of the attack, was handed a 20-month prison sentence, with eligibility for release after serving half of the term. Additionally, she will be disqualified from keeping dogs for five years.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by certain breeds of dogs and the importance of prompt and responsible action in the event of an attack. It also highlights the crucial role of law enforcement in ensuring justice and accountability for victims of violent crimes.
