Mother Jailed for Hiding Brutal XL Bully Attack on Child Friend
A shocking dog attack in Erith has landed Danielle Roberts, 42, behind bars for 20 months. The mother was found guilty of perverting the course of justice and failing to manage a dangerously out-of-control XL Bully that mauled her daughter’s young friend.
Horrific XL Bully Attack at Playdate
The terrifying incident happened last April 1st at Roberts’ home on Byron Drive, Erith. The victim, a 10-year-old friend of Roberts’ daughter, was brutally attacked by Charlie, the XL Bully owned by Roberts’ boyfriend. The girl suffered multiple puncture wounds, leaving her bloodied and in desperate need of medical help.
Mother Tried to Conceal the Nightmare
Instead of calling emergency services, Roberts ordered her daughter to handle the crisis, forbidding any involvement from the authorities. When police arrived, Roberts initially refused them entry and hid the injured child in the bathroom, attempting to cover up the violent episode.
Only after the girl cried out for help did Roberts relent and let the police inside. Officers found the little girl visibly shaken and bleeding, proving the attack’s severity.
Judge Slams Irresponsible Ownership
Sentencing Roberts, Judge Philip Shorrock condemned her for ignoring the victim’s urgent welfare needs and stressed the dangers of owning aggressive dog breeds like the XL Bully. “Owners must be vigilant and responsible,” he warned.
Roberts showed remorse, admitting she panicked after the attack. She was sentenced to 20 months in prison, with the possibility of release after serving half. Additionally, she is banned from owning dogs for five years.
Warning to Dog Owners and Communities
This case throws into stark relief the risks certain dog breeds pose and the critical importance of acting swiftly and responsibly after an attack. It also highlights the crucial role of police in securing justice for victims amid rising violent crimes.
