Redhill Man Caught with Home-Made Bombs and Terror Manuals
Asad Bhatti, 47, from Holland Close, Redhill, was arrested in January 2021 after staff at a computer repair shop flagged worrying files on his device. What followed was a chilling discovery that has shocked the local community.
Explosives and Terrorism Charges Unveiled
Bhatti was found guilty of two counts of possessing items for terrorism and three counts of making or holding explosive materials under suspicious circumstances. Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) uncovered the evidence after a thorough investigation.
Bomb-Making Kit and Terror Guides Found
Police raided Bhatti’s home and a rented storage unit, where they seized chemicals, chemistry gear, electronic circuits, and a dismantled improvised explosive device. Although the bomb was not fully functional, the discovery was serious. At his property, officers also found a USB stick loaded with bomb-making guides, plus manuals Bhatti had written himself on explosives, shooting techniques, and hand-to-hand combat.
Police Credit Public Tip-Off for Stopping Potential Terror Attack
“The case against Bhatti was strong, and I am glad the jury found him guilty today,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright, Head of CTPSE.
“He showed a clear extreme Islamist ideology and hatred towards those he deemed ‘unbelievers’. Thanks to the member of the public who reported the suspicious computer files, we prevented a serious threat to public safety.”
Bhatti is set to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 25 April.
