Two Teens Locked Up for Life Over Brutal Huddersfield Stabbing

Two Huddersfield teenagers have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the savage murder of 17-year-old Harley Brown in a chilling knife attack. The 15 and 17-year-olds, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, were handed their sentences at Leeds Crown Court on Monday, December 18.

Fatal Stabbing After Chance Encounter

The deadly attack happened in the early hours of February 20 when Harley met the defendants outside a 24-hour shop in Huddersfield. Known to each other, the suspects—aged 14 and 16 at the time—chased Harley to Maple Street where they launched a vicious stabbing spree using bladed weapons.

Despite staggering to Kings Mill Lane after the assault, Harley succumbed to his multiple stab wounds in hospital later that morning.

Harsh Sentences for Teenage Killers

  • The 15-year-old received life custody with a minimum term of 10 years and three months.
  • The 17-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years and six months.

Both were arrested days after the killing—one on February 20 and the other on February 22.

Family and Police Condemn Knife Crime

“The murder of Harley sadly stands as a terrible example of the dreadful consequences of knife crime,” said Detective Superintendent Alan Weekes. “These males were prepared to use appalling violence, almost on a whim, and anyone willing to act like this has no place on the streets.”

Harley’s mother heartbreakingly stated: “On the 20th February 2023, the day came which no mother should ever have to go through… You two get to continue with your lives, Harley doesn’t, I don’t, his sisters don’t, his brother doesn’t. You have destroyed a whole family.”

Harley’s sisters added: “We haven’t been able to understand why anyone would do this… You two have not just taken our little brother’s life, you have ripped a whole loving close family apart.”

Chief Superintendent Jim Griffiths, Kirklees Police District Commander, confirmed knife crime had dropped by 21% among under-25s in the past year, but stressed the ongoing fight against knife offences. He urged communities to report those carrying weapons and praised the wide-reaching education efforts aimed at young people.
