Three teenagers have been sentenced after breaking into the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, home to Salisbury Football Club, in Old Sarum on April 6, 2023.
The youths, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Salisbury Youth Court on April 30, where they pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and criminal damage.
During the incident, the clubhouse at the stadium was broken into, resulting in extensive damage to multiple rooms. The repair and cleaning bills amounted to more than £2,000.
In response to their actions, the teenagers were handed referral orders ranging from four to nine months. Additionally, they were each ordered to pay £200 in compensation.
Det Con Martyn Powell commented on the court’s decision, stating, “The result from the court will cause the three involved to work with key workers so that they can be steered away from further criminality.” He added that the compensation would provide some restitution for the damage caused.
The sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of criminal behaviour and highlights the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. It also underscores the commitment of law enforcement and the justice system to address incidents of burglary and vandalism, particularly when they occur in community spaces like sports stadiums.
