Life for Murderers Behind Dariusz Michalowski’s 2011 Killing
Justice has finally caught up with the killers of Dariusz Michalowski. Leeds Crown Court today sentenced Adam Tolwinski and Ernest Weber to life behind bars with a minimum of 33 years. Piotr Weber got six years for covering up the grisly murder and hiding Dariusz’s body.
Brutal Attack and Callous Cover-Up
The horrific crime happened back in 2011 across Huddersfield and Calderdale. Tolwinski, 39, and Ernest Weber, 46, attacked Dariusz at his Huddersfield flat while under the influence of drugs and drink. Over several hours, they tortured and beat him before Tolwinski dealt the fatal stab wound.
The men dumped Dariusz’s body in a remote spot in Mixenden. Piotr Weber, 43, helped cover their tracks, trying to fake a disappearance and delay justice.
Years of Dogged Police Work Lead to Arrests
- Police never gave up after Dariusz vanished.
- A fresh investigation in 2020 sparked new interviews and leads.
- Crucial intel from a witness led to the grim discovery of his body in December 2020.
Detective Superintendent Tony Nicholson praised the persistence of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team: “It is hard to comprehend what was going through the minds of those who carried it out. We’ve brought some justice and answers for Dariusz’s family.”
CPS: ‘Sadistic Torture and Cruel Murder’
Specialist Prosecutor David Holderness slammed the chilling acts. “Dariusz suffered unthinkable abuse before being cruelly killed. Their sadistic torture and cold disposal of his body is a cruel final insult.”
The CPS and West Yorkshire Police worked relentlessly to unravel the killers’ lies, securing life sentences for Tolwinski and Ernest Weber, plus jail time for Piotr Weber.
For Dariusz’s family and friends, this verdict offers some measure of closure after over a decade of pain and heartbreak.
