Cristi-Daniel Stefanescu (above – left), 20, and Ionut Alexandru Tudor (above- right), 19 should, both of Poplar Road, Smethwick, were sentenced to 17 months imprisonment each for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).

The three men will be subject to deportation after they have served their sentences.

The assault took place during the afternoon, when Roman, Stefanescu and Tudor attacked the victim causing significant injuries to his leg. The victim, a man in his 20s, was struck by a car and then assaulted by the men. They then left the scene.

Local residents stayed with the injured man, trying to help him, and called the police and ambulance services. The victim was taken to hospital and kept on a ward to aid his recovery. Due to the covid restrictions, there were no visitors allowed to the ward, however a few days later the victim was supplied with a mobile phone. Whilst using his Facebook account on the phone he received a call from Roman via Facebook who offered him £50,000 not to report the matter to the police.

Worcestershire Detective Inspector Tony Garner said: “We are pleased with the sentence that has been handed out for this extremely violent attack. I am pleased to see these aggressive men taken off the streets for the crimes they have committed.

“The victim received substantial injuries that will affect him in to the future, but thanks to members of our local community, he received the immediate medical care he needed. Members of the local community were also brave enough to provide witness statements which helped us bring the offenders to justice.

“Where we have information or intelligence to suggest organised crime networks are trying to operate within Worcester we will act robustly to disrupt them and to protect our communities from harm.”
