Smethwick trio jailed for vicious attack after victim struck by car
Brutal assault on Worcester street
On August 2, 2020, a man in his 20s was savagely attacked at the junction of Vincent Road and Wyld’s Lane, Worcester. The victim had just been hit by a car when three men pounced, inflicting serious injuries to his leg before fleeing the scene.
Three men locked up for violent attack
- Marius Anton Roman, 33, of Poplar Road, Smethwick, was sentenced to 10 years and six months for Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).
- Cristi-Daniel Stefanescu, 20, and Ionut Alexandru Tudor, 19, both also from Poplar Road, Smethwick, got 17 months each for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).
All three are set to be deported after serving their sentences.
Community steps in to help
Local residents bravely stayed with the injured man, calling police and ambulance services to the scene. The victim was rushed to hospital and isolated due to COVID restrictions. Days later, while recovering and using a mobile phone, the victim received a chilling call from Roman via Facebook, offering £50,000 to keep quiet about the attack.
Police vow tough action against organised crime
“We are pleased with the sentence that has been handed out for this extremely violent attack,” said Worcestershire Detective Inspector Tony Garner. “These aggressive men are now off the streets. The victim will face long-term effects after the attack, but thanks to the brave local community members who helped and gave witness statements, justice has been served.”
“If any intelligence suggests organised crime networks are operating in Worcester, we will act decisively to protect our communities,” he added.
