Teen Knives Thugs Jailed Over Hero’s Fatal Stab

Two knife-wielding teens have been locked up for a shocking street party murder that claimed the life of a brave man trying to protect his family.

Teen Murderer Gets 18 Years for Fatal Stab

Marcus, 35, was stabbed through the heart shortly after midnight on 8 August 2020 during chaos sparked by an unrelated fight at a Firth Park street party. Marcus was trying to stop Ruben Moreno and Isaac Ramsey chasing his brother when Moreno plunged a knife into Marcus’s chest.

Moreno, now 18, was convicted of murder at Sheffield Crown Court. He was sentenced to a minimum of 18 years behind bars.

Ramsey, also 18, was found guilty of manslaughter and jailed for at least 14 years.

Two Teens Arrived Armed and Ready to Fight

Both Moreno and Ramsey, then just 17, came to the party on Horninglow Road armed with knives. A 24-year-old man was slashed first, kicking off the deadly chain of events.

Judge HH Kelson QC called Marcus “a hero” who “gave his life to save his brother” and slammed the killers for giving him “no chance.”

Knife Crime Horror Laid Bare

“Marcus Ramsay was an innocent bystander, whose gut instinct was to intervene and protect his brother from two teenagers he could clearly see were armed,” said Senior Investigating Officer DCI Mark Oughton.

“He was doing his very best to diffuse a dangerous situation. He wasn’t involved in the evening’s violence; he was trying to put a stop to it.”

DCI Oughton praised Marcus’s family for their “dignity and resilience,” attending every day of the five-week trial despite hearing harrowing details. He thanked the public for their support in a “complex and lengthy” investigation that included hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and countless witness interviews.

Police found both knives near the scene. Moreno and Ramsey fled the area but were eventually tracked down after an intense manhunt.

More Violence on Their Records

  • Moreno also received 18 months for possession of a blade and five years for attempted wounding on the same night, to run concurrently with his murder sentence.
  • Ramsey got six years for his role that night and an additional eight years for a 2019 stabbing after a minor crash in Burngreave, when he attacked an unarmed driver with four knife wounds, leaving him with a collapsed lung.

DCI Oughton added, “The streets of South Yorkshire will be safer without them.”
