Two individuals have been charged with assaulting a police officer who sustained injuries during a domestic disturbance call in Queen Mary Court. The incident occurred shortly before 00.35 on Wednesday, 11 October.
Upon responding to reports of a domestic disturbance, officers attempted to make an arrest when one of the officers suffered a concussion and facial injuries during the ensuing altercation.
Benjamin Sharratt, a 32-year-old resident of Southchurch Road, Southend, has been charged with assault by beating, assault by beating of an emergency worker, and criminal damage. On Thursday, 12 October, Sharratt appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court, where he denied all charges. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to face trial at the same court on 4 December.
Additionally, a 16-year-old boy has been charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker. He has been released on bail until a hearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 14 November.
