The incident occurred in Westgate Street around 3.35pm on Tuesday, January 17th.
Two other males approached and stabbed an 18-year-old man. During the incident, one of the suspects chased and threatened the victim with a knife, but he managed to escape unharmed. The suspects then fled the scene in various directions.
Police and ambulance crews arrived quickly, but the victim of the stabbing died at the scene despite the best efforts of medical personnel.
The deceased has been identified as Raymond James Quigley – known as James – of Wymondham, Norfolk, subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings.
A post-mortem examination conducted by the Home Office determined that James died as a result of four stab wounds to the torso.
Following extensive police investigations since the incident, officers arrested two male teenagers on Saturday 21 January and took them into custody for questioning.
They were later charged with murder as well as having an offensive weapon in a public place. Their contact information is as follows:
Alfie Hammett, 18, of Rushmere St Andrew, and a 17-year-old boy from Ipswich who cannot be named due to his age.
They were both remanded in custody and will appear in Ipswich Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Tuesday, January 24.
A post mortem was performed on 22 January, and no signs of injury were discovered,” a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said today (January 23).
The Coroner is investigating the death to determine the cause of death.
