Threats Spark Brighton Police Probe

A man was arrested after viral social media posts urged attacks on Jewish businesses and synagogues in Brighton and Hove. Sussex Police swooped on an address in Newhaven on Sunday following reports of chilling online threats.

The offending comments appeared under a post by the Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign. They allegedly called for Jewish-owned shops to be targeted with “stink bombs” and for “ripe fruit and eggs” to be hurled at local synagogues.

Multiple Charges Laid Amid Hate Speech Storm

The suspect faces four counts, including sending offensive or menacing communications, stirring up religious hatred, threatening to damage property, and possession of a Class B drug. He was released on bail as investigations continue.

Police and Community Leaders Condemn Hate

“Threatening, hateful and antisemitic comments have a profound impact on the Jewish community and the wider public,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Richard McDonagh. “We will not tolerate threats of any kind. Anyone attempting to target people because of their faith should expect a firm and decisive response.”

The Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign slammed the racist remarks. They insisted the post was removed immediately and stressed the individual had no ties to their group, describing themselves as an anti-racist organisation.
