Two nabbed after botched break-in at Faslane, UK’s nuclear submarine HQ
Foiled Attempt to Breach Top-Secret Naval Base
Chaos was averted at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland after two suspects tried and failed to sneak into the fortress-like compound. The base, home to the UK’s nuclear subs, was targeted on Thursday afternoon.
Police Scotland swooped on a 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman caught red-handed. Both now face charges and will appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court this Monday. The probe into the incident is still ongoing.
Faslane: The UK’s Nuclear Stronghold
“Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde,” a police spokesperson said. “A 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.”
Faslane is no ordinary naval base — it houses the Royal Navy’s Trident-armed submarines, the backbone of Britain’s nuclear deterrent. Breaching it is a massive security risk.
Security Alarm Rings Loud Over Breach Attempt
The Royal Navy confirmed the pair tried to gain access but were stopped dead in their tracks. This alarming breach attempt has put the spotlight on the tightness of security at one of the UK’s most sensitive defence sites.
Officials are on high alert as investigations continue, with fresh concerns about safeguarding critical military sites from future threats.
