Tragedy on A12: Man Dies After Falling from Bridge

Emergency crews rushed to the A12 Eastern Avenue near Pettits Lane on Tuesday after reports of a person in distress. Despite swift action from police, paramedics, and air ambulance teams, a man in his 70s was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Road Closures Cause Chaos

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man fell from a bridge onto the carriageway at around 11:45am. The eastbound carriageway has now reopened, but the westbound remains closed, causing major traffic delays. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

A Met Police spokesman said:

“Road closures are in place on the A12 at Pettits Lane Romford RM12, after a person fell from height from a bridge onto the carriageway at around 11:45hrs today.

Sadly despite the efforts of LAS and 1 Air Ambulance paramedics, the man, believed in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have informed his next of kin.

The Eastbound carriageway has now re-opened. Police are working to minimise disruption and re-open the Westbound carriageway as soon as possible. In the meantime alternative routes should be used where possible.
