Blaze Breaks Out at Bexleyheath Care Home Hairdresser
A fierce fire is ripping through a hair salon inside Park View Care Home on Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath. Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines have been scrambled to fight the blaze.
Rescue Mission Underway as Smoke Chokes Ground Floor
The London Fire Brigade was first called at 11:26 a.m. Fire crews from Sidcup, Eltham, Bexley, East Greenwich, and other stations rushed to the scene. Wearing breathing apparatus, they battled heavy smoke filling the ground floor.
Firefighters heroically rescued four people trapped inside and safely guided three more out of harm’s way. Before emergency services arrived, about 30 residents had already evacuated the building.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued four people from the building. Firefighters led three more people to safety,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed.
Road Closures and Bus Route Diversions as Fire Rages
Police and ambulance crews are also at the scene. Woolwich Road is partially closed while firefighters try to bring the fire under control. The public is urged to steer clear of the area.
Due to the closure, bus routes 301 and 401 are being diverted via Mayplace Road West, Erith Road, and Long Lane.
Fire Cause Still Unknown
Officials have yet to determine what started the fire in the care home’s hairdresser. The investigation is ongoing as crews continue to tackle the flames.
