Police Officer Scalded with Boiling Water in Shocking Northampton Attack
Officer Suffers Serious Burns After Kettle Thrown
Chief Constable Nick Adderley has saluted the bravery of two police officers attacked during a tense incident in Northampton over the weekend. One officer was doused with boiling water, suffering severe second-degree burns to the left side of his body. The brutal assault happened just before midnight on Saturday, November 7, in Abington.
The injured officer, a response unit member with just over two years of service, will need plastic surgery after the attack. His colleague also sustained minor burns to one hand. Both were treated at Northampton General Hospital.
Quick-Thinking Colleagues Prevent Worse Injury
The Chief praised the swift action of fellow officers who rushed to help. “Their rapid response in the immediate aftermath prevented these serious injuries from becoming even worse,” Adderley said. He added, “This appalling attack happened while officers were supporting an extremely vulnerable young person.”
Sam Dobbs, chair of the Northamptonshire Police Federation, echoed the praise, highlighting the dangers officers face every day. “This officer was on a routine call and faced horrific injuries. The other officers used excellent first-aid skills and quickly arrested the suspect. We are incredibly proud of their courage and stoicism.”
Teen Arrested and Charged Over Assault
A 15-year-old girl was arrested at the scene and charged with grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker. She was remanded to appear before Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 9, and later released on unconditional bail to face Wellingborough Youth Court on November 17.
