Police Stop in W2 Sparks Social Media Buzz
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has decided not to launch a formal investigation into a vehicle stop by Met officers in W2.
Complaint Referred to Met Police
Instead, the IOPC has passed the complaint back to the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards for further inquiry. The complainant has been informed.
What Happened During the Stop?
- Armed officers were patrolling in a marked vehicle around 4am on Sunday, 14 August.
- They spotted a car on the A40 Westway and suspected the driver was texting while behind the wheel.
- The officers signalled the car to pull over, but it didn’t stop immediately.
- Additional support was requested, and the driver finally pulled over five minutes later on Orsett Terrace, W2.
- The officers explained the reason for the stop, and the vehicle was allowed to continue on its way.
Social Media Footage Triggers Public Interest
Police are aware of social media clips showing part of the stop. Due to public concern, they recorded the incident as a formal complaint and voluntarily referred it to the IOPC before the decision to refer it back to the Met.
