Firefighters from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service put their skills and expertise to the test at a regional competition this weekend against professional firefighters from across the UK in the disciplines of Vehicle Extrication. The team of six travelled to the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to take part in the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) regional competition held on Saturday, May 23. The crew competed against teams from eight other fire and rescue services showcasing their skills in rescuing people trapped in vehicles. The teams competed in a 20 minute, two car, single casualty scenario using a standard set of rescue tools to free the casualty whilst under the watchful eye of assessors. UKRO chairman Assistant Chief Fire Officer Steve Apter said: “I would like to congratulate all of the firefighters who took part in the competition and I would like to thank South Wales Fire and Rescue Service for hosting such a fantastic event.” [photoshelter-gallery g_id=”G0000m_8t0eiItns” g_name=”RBFRS” width=”800″ f_fullscreen=”t” bgtrans=”t” pho_credit=”iptc” twoup=”f” f_bbar=”t” f_bbarbig=”f” fsvis=”f” f_show_caption=”t” crop=”f” f_enable_embed_btn=”t” f_htmllinks=”t” f_l=”t” f_send_to_friend_btn=”f” f_show_slidenum=”t” f_topbar=”f” f_show_watermark=”t” img_title=”casc” linkdest=”c” trans=”xfade” target=”_self” tbs=”5000″ f_link=”t” f_smooth=”f” f_mtrx=”t” f_ap=”t” f_up=”f” height=”400″ btype=”old” bcolor=”#CCCCCC” ] “The range of skills and professionalism on show during the event was fantastic and it was great to see all of the teams’ efforts recognised by those at the awards ceremony. “It’s due to their professionalism, dedication and commitment to their training, to be the best at what they do.” https://youtu.be/jV_m_Nlm08M The team, made up of firefighters from around Berkshire, scooped the top award whilst crews from neighbours Hampshire Fire and rescue were placed second and Oxfordshire were named runners up placed in third place.
